One of Scotland’s most notorious historical characters is the Loch Ness monster. Many people do not always believe in the character that has been reported to be seen many times, are too afraid at the thought of it being real or just want to see it for themselves. No matter how you feel going to Loch Ness is a great day out and for those non believers it is just a little bit of fun! There is plenty to do in Loch Ness, fear not it is not just monster spotting!

Loch Ness has actually been voted one of the most popular attractions in Britain recently due to its vast array of scenery and of course the mystery surrounding the Loch Ness monster. One of the smallest places to see in Loch Ness but a village that is very popular with many tourists is Fort Augustus. There are many beautiful walks surrounding the village as there is plenty of gorgeous scenery and is a great spot when the sun is shining. You may also wish to visit the Caledonian Canal and is perfect for those that enjoy a bit of boat spotting or people who want to sit back and relax whilst the boats pass through the five locks. Many people also enjoy staying in Fort Augustus as it’s a very relaxing location; it has many beautiful beds and breakfasts to choose from, a couple of hotels and even a hostel for those on a tight budget.

Edinburgh castle is not the only castle that is worth seeing. You should give Urquhart Castle a go as it is very beautiful. Unfortunately the castle is in ruins due to Bonnie Prince Charles in the Jacobite wars however do not let this put you off as it is still seeped in historical value and is a great place to visit. The castle is situated onto Loch Ness providing a perfect location for enjoying the view and taking some photographs to capture the scenery. You will learn the history of the castle via a video and then the rest of the time is yours allowing you to venture around the ruins and do some great exploring.

For those that like to pick up a little memento of your trip to Loch Ness then take a trip to Drumnadrochit as this is where the Loch Ness Visitor Centre is situated. The centre will provide all the information you want on the history of Loch Ness and of course this includes the Loch Ness monster.

Many people like to conclude their tour of Loch Ness in Inverness as you can take advantage of a Jacobite cruise along Loch Ness. Boat trips traditionally last anything from one to six hours depending on your preference.
