The palace may not have residents in it all year round however when the Queen is visiting the flag is often up and security is usually heightened. Within the tour of Holyrood castle you can also gain access to the Order of the Thistle which for those that do not know is the highest honour in Scotland. The Order of the Thistle is a means of honouring service men and women that have held public office or have made an outstanding contribution to national life.

Holyrood palace is a place that should be visited by both residents and tourists because it is not an experience you will forget.
