Edinburgh is a fantastic place to visit, seeped in history and has many great tourist attractions. Edinburgh may not be host to the best weather however rain or shine there is still plenty to see. Edinburgh is a perfect location for a family, young couple, the elderly or friends to visit as it has such as great variety of things to visit. Edinburgh is a hot spot for tourism and one of the main locations that many people like to visit is Edinburgh castle. The castle is a gorgeous site to view and allows those that are interested in history a taste of Scotland, for those that are not so keen on history it is also great for gaining an idea of what it is like to be a King or Queen for the day.

Edinburgh castle is situated in the centre of the city and provides a beautiful view for its residents and visitors. The castle has no date constraints as it is open all year round so if you want to visit while its lit up by the sun or while its painted white with the snow you can choose when you want to go. It is strongly advised to book tickets online particularly during peak times as it will avoid any disappointment, at times such as when the Edinburgh festival has started it is usually busy with tourists therefore it is recommended that you do not delay buying them.

The castle is actually built on a collapsed crater of a volcano which makes it extremely unique. It was built approximately around the 12th century when King David I was in resistance of the castle. The castle became a home to the royals from this time until around 1603 at the time of the Union of the Crowns.

Edinburgh castle has been a place where many famous historical battles took place, this includes the Wars of Scottish Independence which took place in 14th century and then in 1745 for the Jacobites Rising. At the tail end of the 17th century the castle became a location for a military base however the royals took up residence at the Holyrood Palace which is situation at the bottom of the volcanic hill, directly beside where the castle sits.

There are many ways which you can get to and from the castle however a minibus tour is one of the best methods. You will be able to ride on the bus in comfort whilst a dedicated driver transports you to historical locations such as the castle.
